So I have reached a point this afternoon where I thought "Whew!" and swiped my hand across my forehead! These last two months just pegged at "BUSY" and I fell behind on my blog yet again. Thanks to those of you who keep checking in...I appreciate your stick-to-it-tiveness! I have just returned from Art and Soul in Hampton and spent the last few days creating samples for new classes. I sent the proposals off for ArtFest 2011 today and will try to get the ones out for Art and Soul Hampton 2011 out tomorrow...just days before the deadlines! We will see what gets accepted. At the very least, I do teach these at my house or to groups who invite me out to teach. In the hustle and bustle of this past month, I did miss the deadline for Art and Soul Vegas. Sigh. It always seems to take a while to get an idea out of my head and onto my worktable. A myriad of little things have to be figured out...what measurements do I use? What needle size goes through a 1/16 " eyelet while trailing a piece of embroidery thread? What size hole do I need and which drill bit makes it? All of these decisions add up to a lot of time spent. I worked for two days to create a project that students will be able to complete (hopefully!) in 6 hours. My mistakes are made so the students won't have to make them and experience the frustration. And believe me, there are frustrating moments! Then there is the writing of the description (to peak your interest and draw you in), taking of the pictures, creating of the supply list, the writing of the instructions, etc. Not that I am complaining! I just wish I had more time to work out more of these ideas. In these two days I also had to squeeze in the end of the year pizza party for the chess club, ice cream party for 40 kids as a graduation treat, piano lesson, and basic family upkeep. So I hope you understand that I don't neglect you intentionally, lol!
Anyway, enough of that. Here is a sneak peek at some new projects. I LOVE how this one turned out...
A tiny house made of altered cabinet cards! Of course, it is titled "House of Cards"...
All four walls are altered and a roof perches atop them!
These cards are perfect for drilling holes in, sewing, and all sorts of other cold connections!
A close-up...
Another proposal involved an art doll I made some years ago with a collaged body and wire mesh skirt...
And here is another incarnation with a modified skirt...remember those engineering issues I was talking about earlier? Seems my brainy idea of setting eyelets and running wire through them to gather the mesh didn't work out that well...
I will post about Art and Soul Hampton and the other events I participated in this spring at a later date, but wanted to leave you with a bit more eye candy. I took Thomas Mann's Found Object Sandwich Brooch class and am very happy with what I ended up with. I was completely fried after teaching 4 workshops in two days, but I really got into it after lunch, a Diet Coke and some Advil, lol!
I went into the class without a clue as to what I was going to make and this just came together. I like how the image reflects the bird flying away...
All in all, a busy but gratifying spring. I hope to post more often and catch up now that summer is here. Of course, there is a mound of things that I put off until June...and here it is almost June! Have a great Memorial Day weekend!

when i grow up and have a steady income, i am going to go to your classes and make something with you. i want every thing you make and love how carefully each detail comes together with your clever hands and mind. awestruck as always.
xoxo. w.

Hi Stephanie, so great to see your post. You are one busy lady! I love your projects, I'm sure your classes will fill quickly! Your pin turned out great, good job. That was a fun class at Adorn Me. Take care, big hug, Riki

Your pin came out gorgeous! And that was a very intense class to take after four days of teaching. I'm determined to get mine finished. Congrats on keeping up with the deadlines. It's hard to do!

Love love LOVE the house of cards. Where do I sign up?
Friends who've seen what I made at Art & Soul all think I'm terribly clever. Thanks so much for two wonderful classes. Incidentally, the tin collage I made with Opie and Linda looks like something I could have made in your class, too. The Rubiano influence was definitely showing. I'll have to send you a pic.
Thanks for everything,
Mona Moore
